Biography
Dr. Sean Mulvaney, M.D. is a Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, board certified in Sports Medicine and Pain Medicine. His 31-year military career included service as both a Navy SEAL officer and Army physician.
In 2008, Dr. Mulvaney became the first Department of Defense physician credentialed in regenerative medicine techniques including platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapy. In 2009, he became the first DoD physician to employ Stellate Ganglion Block for combat-related PTSI.
As founder of the SGB Treatment Center and Chief Science Officer at Regenerative Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Annapolis, Maryland, Dr. Mulvaney has safely completed thousands of ultrasound-guided SGBs for military and civilian patients with PTSI — more than any other physician worldwide.
His research has appeared in JAMA Psychiatry, Military Medicine, Pain Practice, the Journal of Personalized Medicine, and other peer-reviewed journals. He is regularly invited to lecture nationally and internationally as a subject matter expert, and has been featured on CBS 60 Minutes and in the Wall Street Journal, and was referenced on the Joe Rogan Experience.
Dr. Mulvaney's commitment to teaching is demonstrated through the SGB Treatment Center's status as an ACGME-accredited training site for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Anesthesia-Pain Medicine Fellowship.
In 2026, Dr. Mulvaney was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Academy of Orthopedic Medicine.
